Self-realization for most people is an uninteresting topic. Even when we know the benefits of self-realization, watching ourselves, and self-observation, most people still avoid it because it is uncomfortable to find our own flaws and correct them. Understandable. But managing this tiny uncomfortable situation can make you way better at many things in your life. Healing faster, getting hurt less, and happiness are some of them.
Firstly, let’s make clear what self-realization actually is. Self-realization is just being aware of the changes and the reasons behind those changes happening in our minds. That’s just it, and not a mountain only lifted my monks. You can learn to do it too. You can cultivate The Mindset to be more self-aware and self-observant.
Now that you have understood what self-realization actually means, let’s look at how it can make us happier.
Fundamentally, happiness is an emotion, and self-realization focuses on understanding those emotions. When we understand our emotions and the reasons behind them, we can learn how to manipulate them, choose our emotions, and control them at will. Fundamentally, every emotion is a state of mind and just different patterns of neurons firing in our brains.
When we understand our emotions and the reasons behind them, we can observe patterns in our own behavior and know which events or experiences trigger certain emotions. Of course, we cannot control external events and experiences happening to us, but we can definitely choose how to respond to those experiences, for which we are in control. We can be aware of the possibility of a certain emotion getting triggered, and this inner knowledge, this self-realization is what makes us capable of handling adverse conditions in the right manner and manipulating our emotions to be favorable for our inner peace and happiness. You choose how you want to respond to those external events.
This Mindset is what makes you capable of choosing your emotions. You can choose not to get hurt. You can choose to heal faster. You can choose to live happier.
This mentality can seem impractical and non-sensible at first, but when you choose to believe it, you realize you are in control of the way you feel about any external experiences. You are allowed to choose.
Upon further self-observation, you realize that you unconsciously force yourself to feel the pain to satisfy unexplained beliefs that you made to yourself. You are hurt because you allow yourself to notice the pain subconsciously, continuously. You are in control of noticing and not noticing the pain, and you know this. But you still subconsciously decide to notice the pain to satisfy a superstition.
This is self-realization and its powers. You too can achieve this resilient Mindset by believing you are in control of the way you feel about any external adversities. Affirm this and you will find strength!
